Well, we’re back again for the REAL final four since Jeana has replaced Rio in the house. I’m getting impatient though. Let’s cut it down to three and get this runway show on the road.
Tyra Mail is bonkers as usual. She teases the challenge by asking: “What do cotton candy, a squirt gun, and a fan have in common?” They all think it’s a carnival. Which makes almost no sense because only cotton candy is relevant to that. But what do I know?
At the challenge, Ashely Graham introduces them to Kelly Vanasse, the VP of Communications at Pantene, and Danilo, a professional stylist who has worked with Lady Gaga and Gwen Stefani. Since Pantene is a partner of ANTM and the winner gets $100K from them, this challenge is pretty huge.
Each model is assigned a product, and they’ll have to act as creative consultant, model, and director to make their own campaign for Pantene’s Strong Is Beautiful. They’ll choose their styling, direct their own shoots, and choose their favorite photo to sell the campaign. Each model gets to shoot for 10 minutes.
Shanice is given Pantene’s Gold Series, which offers the deepest moisture of any of their product lines. She’s struggling while getting her hair done because of her psoriasis.
Jeana got some kind of volumizing product and got to pick from a bunch of different wigs. She picks platinum blonde, and Khrystyana is like, “Um, that’s my hair color wyd beetch.” (Paraphrasing.)
Khrystyana gets Three Minute Miracle, which repairs damaged hair.
Kyla is given foam conditioner, the defining feature of which is “weightlessness.”
It seems like none of the models did a great job at choosing their own photo or working with the random props they kept grabbing, but the challenge winner is Khrystyana! Kelly said she brought great energy and that she exemplified strength and beauty. She gets to pick a friend to enjoy a special gift from Pantene, and she picks Kyla.
Shanice thinks hers was harder than everyone else’s because of her psoriasis. She looks at Jeana and says, “She just got a wig.” I can’t tell if she even truly feels this way about her psoriasis or if she just wanted an opportunity to throw shade at Jeana.
So what’s the special surprise?! Kyla and Khrystyana get to see their moms!
Kyla is SO MUCH TALLER than her mom. Khrystyana’s mom brings flowers and they speak Russian to each other. She’s SO EXCITED to see her and it’s really cute. Khrystyana finally confesses to her mom about her childhood molestation she revealed to everyone else several episodes ago. Her mom is really sweet to her and handles it pretty well. K says she feels more free now, and I’m happy for her.
PHOTO SHOOT TIME!
Kelly Vanasse is back to tell the models about this high-end, editorial Pantene photo shoot. The models will represent the same products from their original challenge and Danilo is doing their hair. Whoever wins ANTM will have this photo as part of the Pantene Strong Is Beautiful campaign. That’s pretty major.
Jeana again picks a wig the same color as K’s hair, and K’s like, “AGAIN?!” (Not paraphrasing.)
K is really owning the Three Minute Miracle and embodying liberation and openness. She looks fantastic. She’s in it to win it, y’all.
Kyla looks stunning. She’s surrounded by huge feathers and her hair is killer. She seems to struggle a bit at first, but after Drew tells her to put her head down about 50 times, she nails the hell out of it.
Shanice is getting a new look today, and her hair looks fucking amazing. She feels good too: “I know that I’m about to rock and kill this shoot.” While she looks confident and comfortable, the shoot isn’t going well. The client thinks she looks bored, and Drew thinks some photos are too “prom.” Ick. That’s not good.
Jeana is being too sexy and not commercial enough. Drew keeps telling her she’s being too sexy, but it’s still happening. She’s definitely doing lots of open-mouthed facial expressions, which does feel a little off-brand for a Pantene shoot. But she does look great.
PANEL!
Philipp Plein (jeez, that' s a lot of Ps in one name), a designer, is guest judging because the final three will be walking in a runway show for him. Remember when Kyla totally wanted to bang Director X? Well, Shanice has the hots for Philipp With Too Many Ps. “First of all I wanna say he is so sexy. I am not attracted to white men but... Honey. Jesus.”
Shanice – Drew says it shows she can be commercial, but it isn’t what he’d choose for Pantene. Law loves it and calls it “quintessential black hair care company ad.” Philipp says he wouldn’t choose it. I was kind of hoping Philipp would return her love.
Jeana – Drew says, “I don’t like this. It’s too sexy.” Ashley says, “This is so posed and uber sexy.” She doesn’t think it’s on brand. Philipp likes that it is sexy and thinks that sex still sells in commercial things.
Kyla – Ashely says, “You look like a Pantene angel. This is beautiful.Philipp wants it to be more hip, fresh and exciting. Law and Tyra both love it.
Khrystyana – Law says, “Although you look sexy, there’s an innocence in your face.” Ashley loves it too and says it speaks to the masses and is ageless. Drew thinks it isn’t her all-time best. Tyra says her film wasn’t all that great and she looked a bit lost trying to be commercial.
Best Campaign: Kyla
Runner-up for Best Campaign: Khrystyana
Bottom 2: Jeana and Shanice.
Tyra says that Shanice had a great photo but questionable film and that the judges worry that Jeana can’t follow direction for a specific client.
The girl. Who is still in the running. Toward becoming. America’s. Next. Top. Model. Is.
SHANICE! Tyra said she’s had a beautiful journey and has come the farthest of anyone in the competition.
BUT WAIT. This show is messing with me AGAIN. Tyra has something else in her hand. Instead of a photo of Jeana, it’s a paper with Philipp Plein’s logo on it. Jeana’s like, “Huh?”
Apparently Phillipp saved her and really wants her to walk in the runway show. She’s still a finalist. Wut. Not that I mind watching Jeana as a finalist. She's very watchable and a good model. But this means we have to watch the "final four" for the THIRD WEEK IN A ROW. Come on. Let's get to the winner (ahem, Khrystyana). I'm tired.
Shanice is like, “I honestly cannot deal. She’s like a bug and she cannot be killed.”
See you next week for "final four" ROUND THREE. Sigh.
Yours in #nextlevelfierceness,
Susan
