Read more12 Days of Christmas Movies, Day 3: Frozen II
I know what you’re thinking. Is Disney’s Frozen II a Christmas movie?
Yes and no. Yes, many people considered the first Frozen film a Christmas movie, probably because people who celebrate Christmas have sort of commandeered snow as a Christmas accessory (SEE: basically every Christmas anything). And Frozen is nothing if not a snow movie. There is a bit less snow in this movie, but there is still plenty of snowman. And family. And music. And heart. Read moreAladdin Is The Best Disney Live Action Remake Ever (So Far)
As you might remember from my summer movie preview post, I had low expectations going into the live action remake of Disney’s Aladdin. And nonetheless, a lot was pulling me to get to this movie in the theaters: the nostalgia factor cannot be denied (this was an important movie of my childhood of course), the casting looked excellent, the color palate was bright and fun, and most importantly, Raja would be there. I cannot stress this enough. I want a pet tiger.
So, yes, I went to see this movie, but no, I wasn’t expecting to like it at all. Especially since pretty much every Disney live action movie I’ve seen before this has been complete garbage (looking at you Beauty and the Beast). But, friends, I really liked this 2019 adaptation of Aladdin. Maybe I even loved it. So while in all fairness calling Aladdin the best Disney live action adaptation is a VERY LOW BAR, I mean it from the very bottom of my heart. This movie is the best.
But why? Let me break it down for you.

Disney’s latest animated feature Moana will be released on DVD and Blu-Ray this Tuesday, March 7, and though this film was five years in the making, it’s impossible to ignore the current political and cultural climate as this film enters the pop culture zeitgeist. There have been several articles and think pieces devoted to Moana as a feminist heroine who has a more realistic body and an adventure plot that doesn’t center around romance; however, when we live in a world where a man who has admitted to sexual assault is the President of the United States, Moana’s commentary on rape culture should not be ignored.
